Save the Date! June 19th from 6pm until 10pm will be the next gathering of the Chicago Network of Intentional Communities. It will be at the Waterside Co-op (4511 N. Campbell) and will be a potluck. We are encouraging people to bring vegan & raw food, but will welcome anything. Please no nuts because of allergies. The night will be informal. We’ll go around and introduce communities and then just hang out and get to know each other. Then hopefully a music jam will follow afterwards, so bring your instruments. We are sending out a special invitation to some communities which haven’t been represented yet so please help us by forwarding this to communities who are not yet involved. We’ll email more information, shortly…but mark your calendars..June 19th 6pm till 10.

United Church of Rogers Park is beginning an intentional community, and we are looking for people who are interested in living in a diverse, engaged neighborhood. We are looking for individuals who want to live with others who share similar passions, which include social justice, sustainability, and faith. Community members will live together, share community meals, and work on other house projects. Rent is $500 a month and includes rent for the house, utilities, internet, and furnishings. If you are interested, please email Rev. Wesley Dorr (deaconwes@gmail.com) for an application.

Come spend a lazy late summer afternoon with all your friends and friends of friends at the Logan Square Cooperative’s annual Open House. See what’s growing in our garden, have a snack, talk about cooperatives, see a hallway art show art show, and we’ll all enjoy each other’s company!

This morning Julie Peterson and I met at the Heartland Cafe in Rogers Park to bring this new incarntion of ChicagoCoop.net into existance.  Julie had a huge salad and I had an excellent omlette.  Anyway, enough about us, what about this site?  We have some plans for next steps and would love for you to be a part of them.  Here’s what we’re thinking:

  • We need to invite organizers of Chicago co-ops to contribute (setting up logins for each one).
  • We need to craft an email with basic instructions for interested folks.
  • We need to have a face to face event where we can walk people through what we’ve done so far and get them started as contributors (administrators, actually).
  • We need an image to replace that green monster up there.
  • We need to either set up a new email list or resurrect the previous Chicago co-op email list.  Until we have the formal list, we’ll just send an email to the people we know are interested and everyone to reply-all so we’ll have an informal list for the time being.
  • After all that, we’ll need to promote the site.

This is the latest incarnation of the Chicago Co-op dot Net website, a resource for housing cooperatives in and near Chicago.  Please let us know if you’d like to participate!  All are welcome.
