We are a group of people dedicated to social justice and joy sharing a house in the Uptown neighborhood at 1430 W. Leland.

There is no landlord – everyone who lives here is a partial owner of the house. Each person has an equal say in how the house is run and shares responsibility for keeping the house in good condition.

Members pay monthly charges that cover the house mortgage payment and other expenses.

Stone Soup Cooperative- Ashland House is seeking new members for Sept 1, 2010!

Stone Soup Cooperative is a 19 member housing cooperative located in the Uptown Neighborhood in Chicago. We are focused on nurturing social justice and joy. We pay $485 per month which includes all basic living expenses like rent, vegetarian food, utilities, internet access, phone, NY Times and Chicago Tribune subscriptions, and more. We live communally, share meals and all house responsibilities, and love consensus.

June Network of Intentional Communities Gathering

Save the Date! June 19th from 6pm until 10pm will be the next gathering of the Chicago Network of Intentional Communities.It will be at the Waterside Co-op (4511 N. Campbell) and will be a potluck. We are encouraging people to bring vegan & raw food, but will welcome anything. Please no nuts because of allergies.The night will be informal. We’ll go around and introduce communities and then just hang out and get to know each other. Then hopefully a music jam will follow afterwards, so bring your instruments. We are sending out a special invitation to some communities which haven’t been represented yet so please help us by forwarding this to communities who are not yet involved. We’ll email more information, shortly…but mark your calendars..June 19th 6pm till 10.

Christian Intentional Community forming in Rogers Park

United Church of Rogers Park is beginning an intentional community, and we are looking for people who are interested in living in a diverse, engaged neighborhood. We are looking for individuals who want to live with others who share similar passions, which include social justice, sustainability, and faith. Community members will live together, share community meals, and work on other house projects. Rent is $500 a month and includes rent for the house, utilities, internet, and furnishings. Stone Soup Hoyne is looking for another member to join us in cooperative living with a social justice vision. We are 6 people and two dogs in a two-flat brick home on Chicago’s near south side. The house has a finished basement, as well as a porch, backyard, garden, and lots of common space. Rent rages from $400-600 per person—this includes utilities—and $115 for food. Chicago Network of Intentional Communities gathering

NEXT GATHERING
What do we eat? Do we choose to buy local or organic? Which is better?
Should we join a food co-op? How do we share our food with those we
are living with? What if we decide to grow our own food?

Please join us for the next Network of Intentional Communities meeting
where we will host a roundtable discussion about food issues and how
communities deal with them. We will share best practices that other
communities have found around making food choices and also work to
brainstorm new ones. This will be an opportunity to connect to various
intentional communities in Chicago and also learn a little bit about
our food system. Anyone who is interested in community is welcome. We
are also hoping to discuss some logistics like what people want out of
this group and the creation of a webpage.
